  • Let us know if you hear of any local art education programs.
February Dinner Topics
  • Care Brainstorming Game:  We had a timed competition where we brainstormed about caring and awarded a prize to the person who came up with the most ideas in the alloted time.  How many ideas can you think of?
    • Who needs cheering up?
      • The sick, elderly, unemployed, grieving.  What about a lonely neighbor or people with small children?  People caring for an elderly loved one?  Do you know anyone snowed in back east?
    • How can you cheer up someone you know?
      • Send a card, email, photos, gift basket.  What about offering to babysit or picking something up at the store for them next time you go?
    • Random Actions of Kindness Ideas.  Try smiling at a stranger passing by or letting someone go ahead of you in line.  How about leaving an inspirational quotation on your bus or train seat when you exit or greeting a store cashier warmly and sincerely ask about her day...
  • How can you benefit from doing Acts of Kindness:  Studies show that doing acts of kindness can
    • Reduce stress.
    • Brings a rush of euphoria, followed by a longer period of calm.
    • Enhance joyfulness, emotional resilience, and vigor.
    • Increase the sense of self worth, happiness, and optimism.
Quote: "Don't wait for people to be friendly, show them how."

  • Send Letters to Prisoners of Conscience:  One easy act of kindness is to send encouraging letters or emails to prisoners of conscience.  Amnesty International makes it easy by providing templates, addresses, emails and other ideas, especially for their Priority Cases.
  • 12 Steps to a Compassionate Life: Valerie brought in a book to share called "12 Steps to a Compassionate Life" by Karen Armstrong and read inspiring excerpts.  Karen Armstrong is a world-renown author who has worked with world spiritual leaders since 2009 to create a Charter for re-establishing the principal of compassion into our day-to-day lives and our world.  Read more about her efforts at http://charterforcompassion.org/site.
  • Stuff Ya Don’t Want: Got some stuff to get rid of but you're not sure what to do with it?  Here is a great website with suggestions as to what to do with many of your unwanted items where they will do the most good (or discard where they will do the least harm).  http://www.stuffyadontwant.com/
  • Bookcrossing:  Got a book that you want to share with the world?  "Release it into the wild" at www.bookcrossing.com.  Then follow its progress as it travels around the world.
